Police discover 43 firearms in Vaal home─── 07:53 Sat, 21 Dec 2019
Vaal police have uncovered 43 firearms of different calibres and approximately 2000 rounds of ammunition in a house in Vanderbijlpark.
The discovery follows after police attended to a domestic dispute and on arrival at a private home, they observed the house and discovered the firearms.
This led to the arrest of a 31-year-old male suspect after he could not provide answers as to where he obtained such a large quantity of firearms and ammunition.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mavela Masondo, told OFM News that an investigation is underway to determine the origins of the firearms and ammunition. Masondo added that police are trying to establish whether the firearms have been used in the commission of any crimes.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate's Court soon, facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
