FS police investigate after former Setsoto mayor resigns─── 09:06 Sun, 22 Dec 2019
Police in the Free State is investigating allegations that the former mayor of Setosoto Municipality, Ntatheng Maoke, might be an illegal immigrant from Lesotho.
According to police spokesperson, Motansi Makhele, an inquiry is being investigated.
OFM News previously reported that Maoke recently made headlines following allegations of her fraudulent South African Identity Document (ID) and an investigation by HomeAffairs into allegations that she is an illegal immigrant from the neighbouring country of Lesotho.
OFM News also reported that the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) in the Municipality opened a case against Maoke and further demanded that she pay back the money she received since being in the office as the mayor. The EFF provincial Secretary, Shadrack Diko, told OFM News that during a council meeting on Thursday 12 December, to address issues around Maoke, members of the ruling ANC refused to discuss the matter, stating that it is being handled by the court.
Meanwhile, the municipal council appointed a new mayor, Komane Koalane.
