He says the attack took place after a council meeting at one of the metro's chambers in Bloemfontein.

In an affidavit, Kotze says he was walking out with a fellow councillor and in the turn of events, he was attacked from behind by one councillor who was later joined by two other unidentified councillors. 

Meanwhile, police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says the police are investigating a case of common assault and no one has been arrested following the complaint.

"After the meeting, Kotze went outside with the city manager, then one alleged ANC councillor hit him with a 2L water bottle at the back, the other one pushed him and the third one hit him with a fist. He does not know their names but can identify them, " Makhele adds.

The said ANC councillor who allegedly exited the building with Kotze could not be reached for comment after numerous attempts by OFM News.

The council on Tuesday called for an urgent sitting where MEC of Treasury, Gadija Brown and the MEC of Cooperative Governance (Cogta), Thembeni Ngxagisa, made separate presentations to the council on the decision to put the municipality under administration.
