A 30-year-old man was arrested in Kuruman in the Northern Cape for allegedly trying to bribe police.
Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba says he was arrested after officials requested that he produce his driver’s license but instead tried to give them a 750 ml bottle of wine and R200-00. Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a 46-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear before the Calvinia Magistrates court soon. This after various drugs with an estimated street value of R45 000 was discovered in a minibus taxi he was driving. Ramatseba says his arrest follows a tip-off during operation festive season that continued this morning in Calvinia.
“The suspicious taxi was spotted by police this morning and was escorted to Calvinia police stations. The taxi was searched, 60grams of meth (tik) and 300 mandrax tablets were discovered. Police investigation continues,” he adds.
“The Station Commander of Calvinia, Lt Col Vincent Van Wyk applauded members for their vigilance in making sure that drugs are rooted out of the community,” Ramatseba further adds.
