The South African Police Services (SAPS) in the Northern Cape has applauded members of the public, including motorists for their cooperation during the multi operations in the John Taolo Gaetsewe (JTG) District which include Kuruman.

Police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says on Thursday, 26 December 2019, police in that area held a joint operation in conjunction with the Neighbourhood Watch and members of private security companies.

As part of the Safer Festive Season Operations that was launched by Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, officials patrolled shopping centre's, ATM's, parks, amongst others.

Ramatseba says during the operation yesterday, searches were conducted along with a roadblock on the N14 road. He further adds during the roadblock all motorists were checked for compliance purposes in terms of vehicles' roadworthiness and drunkenness.

“At the end of the day, one fine was issued to one driver who was driving without a driver’s license. During these operations, community members who came across men and women in blue on the streets applauded and praised the SAPS for high visibility because they say, they feel safe and protected,” he adds.

Ramatseba says the Cluster Commander of JTG, Johan Bean, also joined the operation and urged other structures within the district to join hands with police in fighting crime.
