#BreakingNews: Embattled Matlosana manager due in court─── LUCKY NKUYANE 10:25 Fri, 31 Jan 2020
The embattled Matlosana Municipal Manager (MM), Theetsi Nkhumiseng, is scheduled to appear in a Klerksdorp court in the North West on Friday 31 January.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that he is appearing in court on suspicions of fraud and corruption. OFMNews previously reported that the local council in September 2019 resolved to suspend him following claims of financial irregularities stemming from the Municipal Public Accounts Committee (MPAC) and the Auditor-General (AG), KimiMakwetu.
The matter is being handled by the Hawks in the province and the provincial spokesperson, Tlangelani Rikhotso, confirmed his scheduled appearance to OFM News this morning. Nkhumiseng has been embroiled in controversy since joining the municipality in 2016 as the acting manager. The municipality has since ignored an enquiry from OFM News about the appearance of Nkhumiseng.
In 2019, the Mail & Guardian wrote an exposé on Nkhumiseng and reported that residents in the area approached lawyers to force the municipality to remove him, claiming that he failed to disclose his alleged criminal record. But Matlosana Mayor, Maetu Kgaile, in an exclusive interview with OFM News in May 2019, said the allegations against themanager have no substance and are baseless.
Kgaile said the municipality has done everything according to the book. A thorough background check was done onNkhumise and nothing irregular was uncovered by the municipality. Also in 2019, local irate residents from Jouberton and Khuma, in particular, bombarded the municipality with a slur of protest action.
