A 26-year-old man is expected to appear in the Bafokeng Magistrate’s Court in North West today. This is in connection with the murder of his 22-year-old girlfriend earlier this week in Tlaseng Village outside Rustenburg.

Police spokesperson Amanda Funani says it is alleged that he saw his girlfriend exiting a tavern, accompanied by another man. An argument ensued and while on their way home, he strangled the victim with his bare hands. He then saw that the victim was unconscious and fled the scene. The victim was declared dead on the scene by the Emergency Rescue Services personnel. A search ensued and he was handed over to the police by the community shortly after the incident.

The North West Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, thanked the community of Tlaseng for their support and assistance in searching for the suspect.

In the same village last month, a 43-year-old man was arrested for the murder of his 40-year-old girlfriend. It is also alleged that she was talking to another man and was strangled to death.

Meanwhile, on 2 January 2020, a 37-year-old man was arrested for the murder of a 15-year-old girl. He allegedly dumped her body in the bushes. It is alleged that the 15-year-old opened a case of rape against the suspect last year December.
