Ntombela, Makgoe visit Bfn school after #ChildTragedy─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 10:25 Wed, 11 Mar 2020
Free State Premier Sisi Ntombela and Education MEC Tate Makgoe have expressed their condolences to the family of the eight-year-old Relebohile Mokgadi, who died at the Tsholetsang Primary School in Bloemfontein following alleged poisoning.
The incident that occurred on 4 March, left six other children hospitalised with two in ICU. The eight-year-old Grade 3 learner allegedly died shortly after a fellow learner shared chocolate with him and he suffered what seemed like epilepsy before he was transported to MUCPP where he was declared dead.
Addressing teachers at the school, Ntombela and Makgoe expressed their sadness and said they are grateful the six other children survived and that four are already discharged. Makgoe further applauded the Principal for taking Relebogile to the nearest health facility with her own vehicle when the school realised the ambulance was not going to arrive as quickly as they anticipated. He alluded that investigations are still underway and the department has since dispatched a group of investigators and social workers to help teachers and learners deal with the trauma that might be caused by the incident.
Makgoe further expressed his disappointment with the school's infrastructure, stating that the school does not have an administration block, amongst other necessities, and he committed to ensure that the school is refurbished.
He said the department will develop the school's infrastructure in honour of Relebogile.
The school will meanwhile hold a memorial service this afternoon for Relebogile while her burial will be on Friday.
