Eskom continues to attach municipality's assets─── 15:08 Thu, 12 Mar 2020
The North Gauteng High Court has today struck from the roll with costs, the Emfuleni Local Municipality's urgent application to stop the sheriff of the court from attaching moveable property to pay Eskom's debt of R615 million.
The sheriff of the court is continuing with the removal of property belonging to the municipality today, and this is happening for the third time this week.
The court also found that the municipality lied under oath saying that since 17 February to 10 March 2020, they had been waiting for Eskom to confirm that it will not remove the municipality's property.
However, Eskom proved before the court that it did confirm that it will continue to remove the property.
The current and historical debt owed by the municipality to Eskom, total to R2.3 billion.
Service delivery has since been negatively affected following this attachment.
