Senekal residents unhappy over closed clinics─── 17:05 Thu, 12 Mar 2020
Angry residents of Matwabeng, Senekal in the Free State are planning to take their dissatisfaction over the closure of local clinics to those responsible in the provincial health sector.
This, after the Matwabeng clinic has been closed due to poor conditions for at least four years now. Residents were then referred to OR Tambo clinic.
They were also provided with a mobile clinic. However, patients are not happy with this option. They claim the mobile clinic is not in good condition, has no toilet and opens too late.
According to a resident, Gift Panyaza, the only clinic currently operating is Boitumelo clinic which is overpopulated due to a number of patients referred to it.
Panyaza says as residents they've had enough of being taken for granted whilst their lives are in danger.
It is alleged that Matwabeng clinic was closed after the clinic experienced water and electricity issues, among others.
Speaking to OFM News about this matter, DA councillor in the area, Moses Mokhele, said the ruling ANC plays with people. He said the ANC knows residents only when elections are near and demands their votes.
Mokhele adds that his party and residents would be holding a meeting for the preparations of protest action, demanding the closure of Boitumelo clinic. "It must be clarified that we have no clinic here at all," he says.
He further points out that the DA was under the impression that premier, Sisi Ntombela, would address the clinic issue during her State of the Province Address (Sopa) but she failed to do so.
Furthermore, Mokhele elaborates that it is not a favour to serve residents - it is a must.
Meanwhile, OFM News is waiting for comment from provincial health department spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi.
