Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, says all precautionary measures are implemented to ensure that the spread of the coronavirus is minimised.
This includes stringent measures at all airports and public transport facilities. He adds that they are still in talks with Prasa regarding measures to ensure safety on trains and will soon issue directions. Mbalula highlights that social distancing will immensely affect the operation of buses and taxis as well. While public transport will not be shut down at this stage, all measures will be taken to ensure that there is social distancing and minimum contact between passengers. He says they are still in talks about the operation of all public transport and that random testing of the virus will be applied at various taxi ranks and bus stations.
He added that they are still working with all agencies regarding cross-border transports.
