This follows the murder of a 69-year-old woman and attacks on three other people at a house in Welkom. The house was allegedly ransacked and cell phones were stolen.

Free State Police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele, says they have arrested 8 Al Qaeda gang members and seven from the IJP for murder, arson and malicious damage to property.

“We suspect this is revenge [after another] incident because according to our investigation, there was a house burnt by the Al Qaeda gang where some of the inhabitants were alleged to be IJP members. As a result, we say this might be an act of revenge. All these arrested people are expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.”
