Vuyo’s stabbing case still in the balance─── LEATILE LEIEE 10:47 Thu, 19 Mar 2020
The case of Vuyo Mbena (22), who was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Karabo Molotsi (20) on 7 March 2020 in Bloemfontein, is still being investigated thoroughly by the police.
The suspect, who is currently out on bail on charges of murder, was expected to appear at the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 17 March 2020. NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping, however, told OFM News that the case was removed from the court roll due to a lack of information. The case’s docket has been sent back to the police for further investigations and will be brought back when substantial information is collected.
The case has sparked an argument on whether such crimes support only women and children. Questions were raised to the police as to whether they support gender-based violence which defends both males and females.
Police spokesperson, Thabo Covane, says the police have changed their perspective on crimes committed by women because it makes them seem biased, but they now concentrated on gender-based violence against both males and females.
The police have confirmed that they will be visiting the victim’s family and update them on the case. This is routine as they are tasked to give information on every step of the on-going investigation. A #justiceforvuyo movement has since been launched on social media platforms. This is an on-going case.
