Northern Cape teen sentenced for rape─── MARVIN NTSANE 10:05 Sun, 22 Mar 2020
A teenager has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the De Aar Regional Court in the Northern Cape after he was found guilty of rape and assault earlier this week.
Provincial police spokesperson, Olebogeng Tawana, says 19-year-old Jerome Sophe, stormed into the house of a 48-year-old victim and raped him at knife point.
He was released on bail. In July 2019 he assaulted a 14-year-old girl and caused her grievous bodily harm.
In a separate incident, Pako Pakoeng was also sentenced to 20 years for rape in the Mothibistad Regional Court in the Northern Cape earlier this week.
The Northern Cape Police Management believe that the sentence will deter criminals from committing violent crimes.
