FS accident leaves nine dead─── LUCKY NKUYANE 05:46 Mon, 23 Mar 2020
At least 13 people are said to be receiving medical attention in the Free State following a deadly road accident on the N1 near Kroonstad on Sunday afternoon.
Provincial Emergency Medical Services (EMS) spokesperson, Sipho Towa, says the accident claimed the lives of nine people, while two sustained critical injuries.
He says six women and three men succumbed to their injuries on the scene.
The road had to be closed for ten minutes to allow for the landing of an emergency helicopter on the scene.
Meanwhile, the Department of Road, Transport and Police spokesperson, Hillary Mophete, says it is thought that a truck collided with a 20-seater Iveco while changing lanes, after a vehicle travelling ahead of it applied brakes, causing the truck to lose control.
