He is accused of attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, hijacking and kidnapping. He was remanded in custody until 22 April 2020 for further investigation.

The provincial spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says the arrest came after a follow-up was made after a tip-off by a community member. He says he attempted to flee when the police approached him, but he was caught and detained.

The crimes were allegedly committed between 8 September 2019 and 26 January 2020 at Taung’s Lokaleng and Chiefscourt Villages respectively.

Tselanyane says he has been a wanted suspect since. He was successfully arrested on 21 March 2020 in the Motswedi village near Zeerust.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Ryno Naidoo, expressed gratitude to the community for providing information to the police which led to the arrest. He said further that the arrest is an indication that collaboration between the police and the community is key in the fight against crime.
