#Coronavirus: NW to set measures in place for #21daysLockdown | News Article
North West Premier, Job Mokgoro

North West Premier, Job Mokgoro, is today expected to outline steps and programmes in relation to the 21-day lockdown to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting comes after Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, confirmed 5 Covid-19 cases in the province. These steps are expected to enhance and provide direction to the province, as South Africans moves closer toward a midnight lock-down as announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Mokgoro's spokesperson, Vuyisile Ngesi, says programmes that will be announced by Mokgoro and his Covid-19 Command Committee will also ensure continuity to provide government services to citizens. A media briefing will take place today in Mahikeng at around 12h00.

So far the province has 5 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with the number of those infected by the virus in the country sitting at 709. During a briefing last week, Mokgoro announced that a 40-bed ward at the Klerksdorp Tshepong Hospital complex has been prepared as the designated hospital with an isolation center during any possible outbreak of the coronavirus in the province. He said the complex has also formed a management committee, specifically for Covid-19, led by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Clinical Manager.

While addressing the media on Tuesday 24 March 2020, Health MEC in the province, Madoda Sambatha, announced that one patient is from Mahikeng, two from Rustenburg and one from Bloemhof. He also said that one of the five people who tested positive for Covid-19 in the province could be traced back to a church gathering in Bloemfontein in the Free State. He said a 21-year-old woman, who tested positive for the virus in the province, came in contact with international visitors during a service at the Divine Restoration Ministries, where five international guests tested positive for Covid-19.
