ANC expresses confidence in new NC municipal mayor | News Article

Expectations remain high that the newly elected mayor of the Magareng Local Municipality in the Northern Cape will soon assist with much-needed service delivery to communities.

The ANC in the Frances Baard District has expressed support for Neo Mase and highlighted their confidence in her leadership. The Warrenton-based municipality has for years made news over it's escalating Eskom debt, lack of revenue collection, high vacancy rates and lack of services to residents. Eskom last year issued the municipality with a notice, outlining its intention to interrupt power supply should the municipality continue with non-payments of its services.

Eskom said the Magareng Local Municipality was over R54.188 million indebted to the power utility. Their debt has been outstanding since 2010. Following Mase's recent election, the ANC in the region said they "trust that she will work hard to take the municipality back to basics by delivering services to the people of Magareng".

"We expect the mayor and councillors to work tirelessly to erase the image of instability that has come to be associated with the municipality. As the ANC leadership of the region, we are determined to support the council of Magareng and we call on the people of Magareng to work hand in gloves with the newly elected mayor and council," highlighted the ANC in the province.
