Meshoe took the test after he was exposed to five international guests who earlier tested positive for Covid-19 after attending a church gathering in Bloemfontein earlier this month. He and the well-known writer and evangelist Angus Buchan, who also tested positive for the virus along with his wife, were part of group leaders who led the prayer.  

Meshoe made the announcement via the national public broadcaster a short while ago and says despite testing positive he will fight the disease. He says he remains positive, determined and strong.

Meanwhile, while announcing the results on Wednesday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said the spike of Covid-19 in the Free State, which increased from 30 to 49, was linked to the Jerusalem Prayer Breakfast held at the Divine Restoration Ministries hosted in Bloemfontein. 

Meanwhile, his results come as South Africa recorded its first deaths due to the novel coronavirus disease, three weeks after the first case was reported. The country  also recorded an increase of new 73 cases which took the national tally to 1000 mark from 927 yesterday. 

Mkhize, announced the deaths of the two individuals on Friday morning 27 March. Mkhize says one death occurred at a private hospital and the other at a public hospital, both in the Western Cape.
