#Coronavirus: FS premier welcomes SANDF in Mangaung | News Article
Premier Sisi Ntombela welcomes the SANDF in the Free State

The Free State premier, Sisi Ntombela, has welcomed the arrival of members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) in Mangaung on Saturday 28 March 2020.

The military personnel are in areas surrounding Bloemfontein to enforce the 21-day national lockdown after president Cyril Ramaphosa evoked the national disaster act due to the coronavirus.

Premier, Ntombela urged residents to understand that the nationwide lockdown is not some sadistic activity from which they derive joy, but a collective of stringent measures to preserve lives. The province is steadily starting to see an increase in those infected by the Covid-19 in the province as so far 67 people have been confirmed positive from 49 on Friday. Ntombela adds that any movement must be in accordance with the guidelines of the lockdown.

"We salute all Free Staters who have heeded the call by His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa to stay at home during the 21 days. "Equally, we want to welcome the deployment of the South African National Defense Force (SANDF) in Mangaung, " she adds.

Ntombela further adds that the 21-day lockdown is not intended to intimidate but to ensure systematic movement within various towns.

"Furthermore, we continue to urge our people to adhere to the set hygiene standards and avoid human contact. From the bottom of my heart, I wish to thank all those who are working during these trying times," Ntombela further adds.

"Your patriotism does not go unnoticed. "Nations throughout the course of history have been built on such acts of love for the country and we appreciate each and every one of you; from the SAPS, to the petrol attendant, cashier, security guard, healthcare practitioners, and shelf-packers; the list is endless," she added.
