Pair to appear in court for unlicensed firearm─── MARVIN NTSANE 05:25 Mon, 30 Mar 2020
Two suspects aged 21 and 33 are expected to appear before the Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court in North West for the possession of an unlicensed firearm today.
Provincial police spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says a vehicle with two occupants was stopped near the Sunrise Clinic in Rustenburg. Upon searching the vehicle, police found a .38 Special loaded with seven live rounds hidden in the vehicle.
Tselanyane says the suspects failed to give a satisfactory account of how the firearm came into their possession. The suspects were arrested and detained thereafter. He says they will face a charge of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. Investigation into the matter continues.
North West Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, urged members of the community to heed the call of the Firearm Amnesty, which will end on May 31, by surrendering their illegal and/or unwanted firearms.
