Provincial spokesperson, Sam Tselanyane, says the suspect was arrested in Ikageng near Potchefstroom on Saturday.

He adds two police members were busy with crime prevention patrols when they came across the suspect.

Upon searching him, a laptop and a knife was found in his possession. He allegedly tried to flee but he was arrested.

Tselanyane says a scuffle occurred during the arrest, adding one police member was bitten on the right hand and stabbed on the left hand by the suspect.

He will face charges of possession of suspected stolen property and assault.

Provincial Police Commissioner, Sello Kwena, lauded the efforts of the two members and commended them for their vigilance and bravery.

He says no amount of threats from criminals will discourage them from their mandate of curbing crime.
