#CoronavirusSA: NC police embark on roadblocks─── MARVIN NTSANE 08:14 Mon, 30 Mar 2020
Northern Cape police say drastic measures against those who do not comply with the law during the current nationwide lockdown will be taken.
This follows after several roadblocks and vehicle checkpoints were conducted over the weekend in Kuruman.
Provincial police spokesperson, Mohale Ramatseba, says during these operations, officials checked whether road users were complying with the National Disaster Management Act, by checking the total number of persons in vehicles as well as their permits.
He says it was also checked whether taxis were operating during the correct time frames.
Ramatseba adds that the Police Portfolio Committee, Patricia Peacock, and parliament dignitary, Mpho Tongwane, the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), the Health Department officials, and the Provincial traffic officers joined the roadblock.
"Pamphlets containing vital awareness information about COVID-19 (Coronavirus) were distributed among road users," Ramatseba added.
