Northern Cape man in court for R1.5 million fraud─── MARVIN NTSANE 05:33 Tue, 31 Mar 2020
A 63-year-old man is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court in the Northern Cape today on charges of fraud, corruption and perjury.
This, after he was summoned to appear in court by the Hawks earlier this month.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says the suspect allegedly acquired an amount of at least R1.5 million for his personal benefit.
She says he reportedly misrepresented himself to the Department of Minerals and Energy. She adds he claimed that the Vaalbos Community Trust gave him the authority to enter into an agreement on their behalf.
The agreement was for the sole rights to conduct prospecting activities and mining at Drooge Veldt in Kimberley.
Mnisi further says during the Hawks’ investigation in 2009, it was discovered that he allegedly lied in an affidavit about a car which was involved in an accident and said he was not driving it when the accident occurred.
