The Transport Department has published new regulations outlining the validity of drivers' licences, and motor vehicle licences during the 21-day lockdown.

Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, on Monday announced that drivers' licences which expires during the lockdown period will be given a month-long grace period after the lockdown is lifted. This includes learner's licences, temporary permits, and roadworthy certificates, amongst others. In efforts to curb the spread of the Coronavirus and to adhere to the lockdown regulations, he further announced that driving licence testing centres, and vehicle testing stations, will remain closed during the lockdown period.

He in a statement added that "the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence during the lockdown shall be deemed to be valid and shall be extended for a further grace period of six months from the date of expiry of the lockdown period, unless determined otherwise by the minister".
