Bfn residents face power outages─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 13:07 Wed, 01 Apr 2020
Residents in a number of northern suburbs of Bloemfontein are without electricity.
This, as the power supplier - Centlec - confirms there has been an extensive power failure affecting areas such as Dan Pienaar, Bayswater, Langenhoven Park, Groenvlei, Pellissier and the CBD, amongst others. The entity's spokesperson, Lele Mamatu, in a statement says they are attending to the power failure and residents can expect to have electricity back within three hours or so.
Meanwhile, the DA in the Mangaung Metro has lambasted the municipality and its entity for the power outage stating that it is failing to prioritise residents.
The party's Mokgadi Kganakga says a power outage is a daily occurrence in areas such as Roodewal, Vaalbank Zuid, and Olive Hill with residents left to live in the dark. She says it is shocking that while the rest of the country is hard at work fighting against the spread of the Coronavirus, the municipality is "nonchalant about water and electricity".
Kganakga says water supply to large parts of Bloemfontein has also proven to be a major challenge.
She highlights that it is unacceptable that residents have to battle to access necessities such as water and electricity, even during a critical time when the entire world is facing the Covid-19 pandemic and with the country under lockdown.
