#Coronavirus: Two more test positive in FS | News Article

The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) says two more people have tested positive for coronavirus in the Free State.

The communicable diseases centre says this brings the number of those infected by Covid-19 in the province to 76, two up from 74. This after Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Wednesday evening 1 April 2020 briefed the media on the launch of mobile units in Gauteng.

He also announced that so far 1380 people have been infected by the virus with 5 deaths having been reported so far and one of those reported in Bloemfontein.

Mkhize also said that in light of the increasing incidence of Covid-19 local transmissions, there will be enhanced door-to-door testing and increased deployment of community healthcare workers.

This follows a statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that 10 000 healthcare workers would be deployed to rural areas and cities to embark on a massive scale of screening for Covid-19.

The massive screening follows after Covid-19 tipped to over 1000 cases in recent days with only 31 recoveries as reported by Mkhize and the NICD.

This is to make sure that the government can access more people to test and screen during the 21-day national lockdown, aimed at flattening the infection curve of the disease.
