The police ministry spokesperson, Mathapelo Peters, says the visit is to asses the coronavirus lockdown joint operations in the province. She says Mathale will assess the adherence of lockdown regulations by police members and residents. She adds that Mathale will commence by addressing a parade at the Twin City Mall in Heidedal this morning.

This visit comes after Mathale and Sitole visited the Northern Cape yesterday. During the visit they attended a roadblock operation on the N8 road, South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) grant pay points and a parade of the SAPS and SANDF members in Galeshewe.

Mathale applauded the law enforcement agencies for braving the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic by ensuring that they carry out the instructions of President Cyril Ramaphosa. He further encouraged the members on parade to take precautionary measures by continuing to wear their protective masks, maintain social contact, washing hands or sanitising hands.

"Let's keep on policing malls, shopping centres and ensure that people are safe as they are out there to receive grant payments from Sassa," he said.

Earlier this week the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, visited Mahikeng in the North West. He commended the province for their exemplary set up, where all relevant government departments were working closely together. He further vowed to ensure that the same standard is upheld at all the operations countrywide.
