Nxangisa promises Maluti-A-Phofung residents running water | News Article

All Maluti-A-Phofung residents will have running water supply by Tuesday 7 April.

This is according to the Free State  MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta), Thembeni Nxangisa. Nxangisa says they noted the challenges that have been experienced by residents in this municipality and are steadfast in delivering their promises. He says the province has, together with the national department, been working hand-in-hand on several water infrastructure projects in the area and can now safely announce that all residents shall have running clean water by tomorrow. OFM News previously reported that the cash-strapped municipality earlier this year made national headlines when residents were up in arms over a lack of water following the death of an 8-year-old girl who fell into a nearby river and drowned as she and her 10-year-old brother were fetching water.

The protests in the area saw schools and businesses being shut down by residents who claimed their plight had seemingly fallen on deaf ears.

Following the shutdown, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu pledged R220 million to address the water crisis in the area.

Nganxisa now confirms they have been working on the Fika-Patso Dam and other water projects and are finalising preparations for residents to have running water by Tuesday.
