#CoronavirusSA: Confirmed NW cases increase to 15─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:49 Thu, 09 Apr 2020
The confirmed coronavirus cases in the North West have now risen from 11 to 15 after 4 more people tested positive for the Covid-19.
This comes as the Department of Health in the province, premier Job Mokgoro, and his Command Council have been leading the screening of residents across the province. President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that 10 000 fieldworkers would be sent across the country to villages and towns for massive screenings in the fight against Covid-19. The announcement of these screenings comes as Cabinet and Ramaphosa agreed on the 21 days of national lockdown due to the outbreak of the virus which so far has infected 1845 and killed 18 people. At least 2 people have recovered from the virus with no reported deaths in the province.Over 8000 people across the province have been screened voluntarily since Monday 6 April 2020.
Mokgoro will on Thursday 9 April 2020 visit the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District to continue with the rolling out of the mass screenings, testing and tracing programmes that started early this week at Motswedi Village in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District. He will be accompanied by Members of the Provincial Command Council, the Executive Mayor of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, Barei Mosiane-Segotso, mayors from Local Municipalities in the district as well as executives from the mining company, AngloGold Ashanti.
AngloGold Ashanti will be handing out masks, food parcels as well as water tanks to communities in Matlosana as part of their contribution towards the provincial government’s effort to fight the spread of Covid-19. Mokgoro visits various screening sites in the District as well as engagement with communities to urge them to go for voluntary screenings.
