Suspects allegedly caught with abalone, expected in NC court | News Article

Two suspects are expected to appear in the Springbok Magistrate's Court in the Northern Cape today.

The police spokesperson, Nomthandazo Mnisi, says they are facing two charges, which include the contravention of Disaster Management Act Regulations and being in possession of abalone.

Mnisi says the two suspects, aged 15 and 36, were arrested yesterday after they were found by the police patrolling near an Abalone Farm in Springbok. She says the suspects were walking suspiciously around the farm and the police searched them and their vehicle. Upon the search, wet abalone with an estimated street value of R6 000 was found and confiscated. They were arrested on the spot.

Mnisi adds that the 15-year-old suspect was released in the custody of his parents. She further says the case has been handed over to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in Springbok for further investigations.
