#Covid19: FS receive food parcels for vulnerable | News Article

Free State Finance MEC, Gadija Brown, has expressed gratitude towards Free State businessmen and women who donated over 200 food parcels to help vulnerable households in Mangaung.

This, amidst growing concern over the economic impact of Covid-19 on Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) as well as on informal businesses.

While some SMMEs have reportedly accused the government of excluding them from the Covid-19 related business rescue funds in favour of politically connected entrepreneurs, others have announced that they won't recover from the 21-day national lockdown and would be forced to consider retrenchments.

Brown tells OFM News that whilst the country is still battling with the pandemic and several businesses are being faced with uncertainties, they are grateful that a number of SMMEs have nonetheless extended a helping hand to communities. She highlights that the food parcels donated by the Free State Business Chamber of Commerce and other private companies, will greatly assist communities in those need as Mangaung remains the epicentre of the coronavirus in the province.

The province's confirmed Covid-19 cases currently stands at 88 with three confirmed deaths.
