#Coronavirus: NC numbers go up to 15─── LUCKY NKUYANE 11:33 Fri, 10 Apr 2020
About 1600 people have been screened in the Northern Cape since Monday, and two people have fully recovered from the coronavirus, with no deaths reported thus far.
This, as the province recorded yet another increase of Covid-19 cases.
So far the number of those infected by the virus grew to 15 from 13, after two more people were confirmed positive.
MEC for Health, Mase Manopole, says a batch of 300 contact tracers will be added to the initial number of 500, totalling 800 tracers.
Manopole says this follows after an agreement was reached with mining houses in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District, to provide additional people for contact tracing.
"The District’s Outreach Response teams embarked on a rigorous door-to-door screening campaign in communities and will continue for the entire duration of the lockdown period. Since Monday to date, over 1600 people were screened for COVID-19 in the Phokwane Municipality, as it is the epicentre with 8 confirmed cases,“ she adds.
Manopole further urged residents not to panic, but rather to adhere to restrictions imposed during the lockdown period. She says if all citizens do this, the country will definitely bear fruit by disrupting transmission and flattening the curve.
"All known COVID-19 positive cases in the Province are in a stable condition and under self-quarantine. There are nine patients in Frances Baard, one in Pixley ka Seme, one in ZF Mgcawu and two in Namaqua," Manopole adds.
OFM News previously reported that the first two confirmed cases in the Northern Cape were from Hartswater, where a couple tested positive after also attending a church gathering in Bloemfontein.
