'Perpetrators must face the law' - NC Education─── LEATILE LEIEE 12:06 Sat, 11 Apr 2020
The MEC of Education in the Northern Cape, Mac Jack, expressed his concern over recent vandalism and burglaries committed at schools in the province during the Covid-19 lockdown.
In total 26 schools have been affected by these crimes. In a statement released by the Northern Cape Department of Education, it stated that the crimes were committed in four districts, namely Pixley Ka Seme, ZF Mgcawu, Frances Baard and the Namakwa District. Jack also encouraged communities to take ownership of schools and report any wrong-doing immediately to law enforcement officers so that perpetrators can be brought to book.
The statement reveals how these crimes even went as far as to steal and vandalise properties occupying ''grade R'' level classrooms. At the Vaal-Orange Primary School in Douglas, fences were cut, grade R educational equipment was even stolen. In addition 12 windows and 2 doors were broken.
Fortunately in the ZF Mgcawu District, S.C. Kearns High School that was broken into managed to capture burglars on CCTV camera. They have since been caught and arrested by Saps thanks to a very effective CCTV System.
MEC Mac Jack concluded that he encourages all communities to take ownership of schools and report any wrong-doing immediately to law enforcement officers so that perpetrators can be brought to book and face the full might of the law.
