#Coronavirus: NW Health launches mass screening and testing─── 09:05 Mon, 13 Apr 2020
North West Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, has urged residents of Tlhabane and Geelhout Park to get screened and tested for Covid-19.
Sambatha will be stationed in Rustenburg for four days from Wednesday until Saturday next week, to support field workers screening and testing with two mobile testing units. Rustenburg alone has registered nine confirmed cases. The majority of these confirmed cases are in Tlhabane and Geelhout Park. A total number of 153 Covid-19 tests have since been conducted, 85 came back negative and the results of 39 are still pending.
Three people who had contracted Covid-19 have recovered in Rustenburg alone. ''We are calling on people, especially those in the two aforementioned settlements to all come out in their numbers for screening so that those who show symptoms can be referred for testing. This will help to curb further transmission,'' Sabatha said.
On April 6, the province had launched a mass screening, testing and contact tracing project in Motswedi village, Zeerust. A total of 270 713 people were screened by field workers and at health facilities, where 23 people have been referred for testing.
