#CoronavirusSA: 44 hospital workers self-quarantine in NW | News Article

At least 44 employees at three different private hospitals in Klerksdorp in the North West will be placed under self-quarantine following a confirmed case of Coronavirus at these hospitals.

The MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, says a gynaecologist tested positive for the virus and came into contact with about 100 people at these facilities, including patients. Sambatha says of these people, 56 were patients and 50 of these patients have now been tested already. He adds that the primary contacts of the doctor have been tested and secondary contacts, which include the testing of direct contacts, will now be initiated. Sambatha says the second phase will also include the assessment of the residential places and see if they're suitable for them to self-quarantine.

Sambatha says the doctor worked at Life Anncron Hospital, Wilmed Park Hospital, and Sunningdale Hospital. At least 164 people have been tested for the novel coronavirus in the North West and one person infected by the Covid-19 is said to be in a critical condition. Of the 164 tests conducted, 94 turned out negative, 44 are still pending and the province has a total of 3 recoveries with no death reported. In the North West so far, the number of positive cases increased from 19 to 22, an increase of three.

Sambatha, together with Deputy Health Minister Joe Phaahla, on Monday visited Wilmed Park Private Hospital in Klerksdorp. He urged residents to adhere to the lockdown rules and regulations and to stop spreading the virus. He further urged them to allow healthcare workers to flatten the curve. OFM News previously reported that there have been at least 16 referrals for possible testing for the Covid-19 after the mass screening of over 15 000 people in the province.
