The North West province is on a mission to trace six people who have allegedly been in contact with a Klerksdorp doctor who tested positive for the coronavirus.

The MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, says the contact with these six patients was at three different hospitals in the city. He says his department is now working with the three private hospitals to trace them. He adds that the doctor is the first healthcare worker in the province to test positive for Covid-19. This doctor is also alleged to have come into contact with 44 employees and the said number of patients.

At least 164 people have been tested for the novel coronavirus in the province. So far 22 people have tested positive in North West and one person is said to be in critical condition.

Of the 164 tests conducted, 44 are still pending and the province has a total of 3 recoveries with no death reported.

So far, the Bojanala district which includes Rustenburg, has over 10 cases, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District which includes Potchefstroom has over 4, Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati which include Bloemhof has only one case, and Ngaka Modiri Molema, which include Mahikeng has 2 cases.
