Department addresses Qwaqwa water leaks | News Article

The recently opened Fika Patso Water Treatment Plant in Qwaqwa in the Free State has resulted in many water leaks in the areas.

It is reported that many videos and photos have surfaced on social media showing water flowing in the streets of Maluti-A-Phofung. The provincial HOD of Water and Sanitation, Tseliso Ntili, says this is natural because the water pipes have not had running water for a long time.

He also says due to the ageing infrastructure, the pressure exerted by the water could cause pipe bursts. Tsiliso says the community should be assured that Maluti-a-Phofung Water is attending to the leaks. He further adds that leaks should be reported immediately to 058 718 1100.

The Fika Patso Water Treatment Plant was refurbished and officially opened by the Free State Premier, Sisi Ntombela, last week Wednesday.

Speaking at the opening, Ntombela urged residents to look after the facility and report any leakages to officials.
