#Coronavirus: ANC in NC threatens action against councillors─── LUCKY NKUYANE 08:09 Wed, 15 Apr 2020
Councillors belonging to the ruling ANC party in the Northern Cape have been condemned for the manner in which they have been distributing food parcels across the province.
Some residents accused their ward councillors of using the food parcels for campaigning purposes. They also alleged that in some cases councillors are selling the food parcels or allocating them to their non-deserving family and friends.
ANC provincial secretary, Deshi Ngxanga, says this behaviour is anti-ANC, as it brings the party into disrepute. Ngxanga has said that the party is unwavering in its resolve of instituting disciplinary action against them if found guilty.
Meanwhile, three councillors from the North West belonging to the ANC have been suspended for allegedly failing to adhere to the declaration of a national disaster and the subsequent national lockdown.
Nganxa has called on ANC members to collectively ensure that they lessen the burden on those who are less privileged in communities.
"The ANC, therefore, calls on all its employees from all levels of government to ensure that deserving families, irrespective of their political affiliation, receive the relief offered by the ANC-led Provincial Government.
The ANC further calls on all its members and supporters to adhere to good health practices of washing hands, maintaining social distancing and staying at home to contain and avert the spread of the virus, together we can flatten the curve," he adds.
So far the province has 16 confirmed cases of Covid-19 with no reported deaths.
