Denosa expresses concern over #Covid19 in NW─── KATLEHO MORAPELA 11:28 Wed, 15 Apr 2020
The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa in the North West is calling on the government to fast-track the provision of personal protective equipment (PPE) to all healthcare workers in the province.
This, after the province reported its first case of a doctor infected with Covid-19. The organisations representing nurses and midwifery professionals says the government should also fast-track the recruitment of healthcare professionals to increase capacity in the province. The union's Acting Provincial Secretary, Kedibone Mdolo, in a statement highlights that provision of risk allowances, temporary accommodation, and transport for all essential service workers who take care of Covid-19 patients, should be amongst some of the measures urgently put in place.
The province, meanwhile, has 22 confirmed cases with the majority in the Bojanala Platinum District.
Mdolo adds that Covid-19 screening and the testing of health workers and communities in all four districts of the province must be accelerated.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize on Tuesday announced that the total number of positive cases in the country now stands at 2415, with Gauteng remaining as the province with the leading number of cases at over 900, followed by the Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.
