Plans for SA's economic recovery is underway─── MARVIN NTSANE 13:46 Thu, 16 Apr 2020
A virtual Special Cabinet Meeting to discuss the socio-economic recovery plan post the COVID-19 national lockdown took place yesterday.
This follows the announcement made by South Africa's President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this month, that the Cabinet would have a full discussion to come up with an economic recovery plan for the country.
The Acting Cabinet Spokesperson, Phumla Williams, says the cabinet meeting concluded that another meeting to consolidate one document with the key priorities of the economy will take place next week, on 20 April 2020. She says the minister of Public Enterprise, Pravin Gordhan will also be expected to give a report on the South African Airways during the meeting. Williams says the nation will then be informed on the finalised economic recovery plan afterwards.
The plans for the economic recovery follows the consequeces of coronavirus national lockdown and the recent downgrading of South Africa by ratings agencies Moody’s and Fitch respectively.
During the meeting, five presentations were received from the clusters of : (1) Economic Sectors, Investment, Employment and Infrastructure Development; (2) Governance, State Capacity and Institutional Development; (3) Social Protection, Community and Human Development; (4) International Cooperation, Trade and Security; and (5) Justice, Crime Prevention and Security.
