#CoronavirusSA: NW patient out of ICU─── LUCKY NKUYANE 09:52 Fri, 17 Apr 2020
The number of people infected by the coronavirus in the North West increased to 24 and the province remains amongst the three provinces that have not reported any deaths.
Health MEC Madoda Sambatha says despite the number of people infected by Covid-19 in the province, only one person has been admitted to hospital. He adds that the patient who was initially admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) due to the virus, is now out of the ICU. He says the majority of cases in the province are mild cases and so far ten people have recovered. Sambatha says it’s important for people to screen and test.
Ten of the people who have recovered includes a German citizen who was earlier repatriated and a Pretoria resident who also has left the province. Rustenburg in the Bojanala District Municipality has most of the confirmed cases, namely 10, Hartbeespoort in the same municipality has 4, and Klerskdorp in the Matlosana Local Municipality also has 4 cases.
Meanwhile, the Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize, on Thursday night announced an additional 14 deaths with 48 the total to date. He also announced that the country now has 2605 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
