#SAlockdown: 57 schools vandalised in North West | News Article

At least two more schools have reportedly been vandalised in the North West, increasing the number to 57 in the province on Friday.

The provincial Education MEC, Mmaphefo Matsemela, visited the vandalised schools where she described the perpetrators as destroyers of the future of learners. She added that they should be handed a long prison sentence. Matsemela further says the department is receiving reports of these crimes every day. She also applauded the school governing bodies and community members for working with the authorities to catch some of the suspects.

OFM News reported last week that the department reported at least seven schools in the North West were vandalised since the beginning of the lockdown. It is, however, now reported in the Bojanala district that the number of schools vandalised is 20, in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district there are 13, in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District there are 12, and in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District there are 10. The stolen property mostly include stationery, groceries, toilet rolls, electronics such as tablets; computers; copying machines; televisions and cctv equipment, electric cables, copper cables, aluminium, geysers, roof material, urinary systems and fences. Matsemela urges community members to continue working together with the police to arrest the suspects.
