The North West Health Department has announced, thirteen people in the province have recovered from the coronavirus. This is out of the twenty four cases that the province has thus far.

Ten of the recoveries are in the Bojanala Platinum District which includes Rustenburg, whilst two are in the Kenneth Kaunda District which includes the cities of Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom. One recovery has been reported in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District which includes the province’s capital Mahikeng. The province has thus far conducted 489 tests.

The North West Health Department previously raised their concerns over the latest number of coronavirus cases in the Bojanala region, that have been traced back to Gauteng contacts. The region has the highest number of COVID-19 cases in the province, something which Department spokesperson, Tebogo Lekgethwane, says is a cause for concern.

He explains the earlier cases in the province were of people in the province who travelled abroad, however the latest figures are showing a cross-provincial link. The Department appreciates the lockdown and urges people to stay at home and “avoid traveling, until this thing has cleared” cautions Lekgethwane.

The North West is yet to report a death from Coronavirus related complications.
