#GBV: High school learner arrested for murdering boyfriend | News Article

A 17-year-old girl has been arrested for the murder of a 20-year-old young man in Odendaalsrus in the Free State on Saturday, 18 April 2020.

The provincial police spokesperson, Motantsi Makhele says it is alleged that the two were lovers. He says the incident occurred at the deceased's home on Saturday evening.

Makhele says the suspect and the deceased were allegedly having a quarrel before the suspect stabbed him. He says the suspect apparently accused the deceased of having an affair.

This led to her stabbing him with a knife on the left-hand side of the chest. He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics. The murder weapon was also found on the scene.

The 17-year-old is expected to appear in the Odendaalsrus Magistrate Court on Monday, 20 April 2020.

Makhele also confirmed that the deceased is a learner at the Riebeckstad High School in Welkom.

Meanwhile, a #justicefmarvin movement has been launched on social media platforms.

This is the second murder due to gender-based violence in less than 2 months in the Free State. The case of Vuyo Mbena (22), who was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend, Karabo Molotsi (20) on 7 March 2020 in Bloemfontein, is still being investigated by police.

The suspect, who is currently out on bail on charges of murder, was expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on 17 March 2020. The National Prosecuting Agency (NPA) spokesperson, Phaladi Shuping, however, told OFM News that the case was removed from the court roll due to a lack of information.

He said the case docket has been sent back to the police for further investigation and will be brought back when substantial information is collected.
