A bishop from Lesotho, who is said to be residing in Gauteng, received a R3 000 fine for contravening lockdown regulations in Ikageng outside Potchefstroom in the North West.

This came after he was found handing out food parcels outside the Ikageng police yesterday afternoon.

The handing out of these food parcels allegedly came after the bishop received complaints from Lesotho nationals staying in the area that they have not received food parcels.

Police spokesperson, Vish Naidoo, told OFM News that the bishop contacted Ikageng police yesterday morning and requested permission to distribute the food parcels. He was then referred to the disaster management centre in the area.

Naidoo said police later saw the bishop outside the police station handing out food parcels and was asked to show his permit, he did not have one.

The bishop was then arrested and fined.
