#Coronavirus: NW recovery rate increases to 16 | News Article

As efforts in its battle against the spread of the novel coronavirus continues in the North West, a glimmer of hope remains.

This, as sixteen Covid-19 patients in the province have recovered from the virus, with 28 infections reported so far, with no deaths.

MEC for Health, Madoda Sambatha, says the greatest number of those who have recovered include thirteen people in the Bojanala District Municipality - which includes Rustenburg. Among those who have recovered is a 21-year-old woman from Bloemhof who became infected with the virus while attending a church service in Bloemfontein in the Free State.

So far, two out of five people in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality have recovered, including one in Klerksdorp and one in Potchefstroom. All four in Hartbeespoort, two in Brits, and seven of the thirteen in Rustenburg have recovered so far. Sambatha adds that one person out of two in Mahikeng in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District also recovered, as well as one person in the Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati District. "Together we can beat the coronavirus, adhere to lockdown regulations, and allow healthcare workers to deal with the virus," he adds.

Meanwhile, Sambatha previously announced that a doctor in Klerksdorp was among those who recovered from the virus in the province. The doctor reportedly came into contact with 100 people, including 44 employees and 56 patients at these hospitals where he works as a gynaecologist. Sambatha announced that all 44 employees who came into contact with the doctor, self-quarantined and they tested negative for Covid-19. Sambatha added that the provincial department's tracing team managed to track all 56 patients of the doctor - only two showed Covid-19 symptoms but they also tested negative for the virus.
