A second Welkom couple has been arrested in the Free State for being in posession of illegal firearms and ammunition this past week.
This is the second arrest in less than a week. In this incident, a 32-year-old man and his 27-year-old wife were found with a 9mm pistol and different types of ammunition in their home in Bronville on Friday.
Provincial Hawks spokesperson, Lynda Steyn, says the husband tried to offer the investigating team a R10 000 cash bribe for their release.
She says the cash was also confiscated. Steyn adds that further investigations revealed that the husband is in the country illegally.
She says charges of corruption as well of contravening the Immigration Act will be levelled against him.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the Welkom Margistrate's Court today.
