A ward councillor and nine other people who were apprehended on Monday April 27 in Boikhutsong near Lichtenburg in North West for destroying two police vehicles and one provincial ambulance, will appear in the Local Magistrate's Court today.
They face charges of malicious damage to property, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft, as well as the possession of suspected stolen goods.
Police spokesperson, Sabata Mokgwabone, says the suspects are aged between 18 and 23 years old.
The violence in the area erupted following two fatal accidents that claimed the lives of a 17-year-old teenage girl and an 8-year-old boy respectvely.
It is said that on April 21 a privately owned bakkie collided with and killed the young girl, which angered the residents.
Later on a vehicle from the police's K9 Unit reportedly killed the eight-year-old boy.
