Three NW health workers recover from #Covid19─── LUCKY NKUYANE 16:06 Thu, 07 May 2020
Three North West Healthcare Practitioners have recovered from the coronavirus after testing positive.
The North West has 17 active cases at this stage, after 20 of the 37 infected have recovered from the virus, with no deaths reported.
The Health MEC, Madoda Sambatha, says these professional healthcare workers formed part of over 500 healthcare workers across the country who tested positive for Covid19. He adds that all three workers were based in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District, which include the Matlosana Municipality in Klerskdorp, and they are all working in private health care. Sambatha further adds that all of the contact lists linked to these workers were since traced and have tested negative after undergoing testing and strict quarantine procedures.
Meanwhile in Rustenburg, the province received personal protective equipment (PPE) from private donors. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said of the said infected number of health workers, only 26 were hospitalised and two of them, a doctor and a nurse, have since died.
He said that in addition, 149 health workers had recovered in total. OFM News previously reported that Sambatha said a gynaecologist, stationed at three private hospitals - which include the Life Anncron Hospital, Wilmed Park Hospital, and Sunningdale Hospital - has recovered a month ago and is part of the 20 recoveries in the province. This doctor came into contact with about 100 people at these facilities, including 56 patients and 44 employees.
On Thursday 7 May, Sambatha announced that the Promosa Community Health Center in Potchefstroom in the province has been shut down by the provincial health department. This after a professional nurse at the Health Center tested positive for the coronavirus.
Sambatha said he received a report on Wednesday night 6 May about the incident and took decisive action to immediately close the facility to allow decontamination. He also said that a mobile clinic has been deployed to ensure access and continued service delivery until the decontamination of the facility has been completed. Sambatha added that all staff members at the facility and their contacts will be placed under quarantine for the next 14 days.
